Nokia Sells Vertu, Announces Major Layoffs
Nokia has announced it will close its factories in Finland, Germany and Canada and lay off up to 10,000 workers before the end of 2013.
The company has also shuffled a couple of its key executives, and sold its luxury phone brand Vertu to private equity group EQT VI.
Amongst all these cuts, the Finnish giant managed to find the funds for an acquisition. Nokia will acquire specialists, technologies and intellectual property from the mobile imaging company Scalado.
Microsoft to Buy Yammer for More Than $1 Billion [REPORT]
Microsoft is in talks to buy business social networking company Yammer for more than $1 billion, Bloomberg reports citing two people familiar with the matter. A deal may be reached as soon as Friday.
Samsung Denies Building a Social Network
Samsung has denied rumors it is building a social network, internally dubbed "Samsung Facebook," calling them "groundless."
A Samsung service called Family Story, which was introduced in February 2012 on various Samsung devices, gives families a way to share and store data. Samsung is currently working on upgrading the service, but claims the project is "far from a “Samsung Faceboook”."
