Nokia Unveils World’s First ‘Universal’ Typeface

Sustaining a uniform communications and design platform has always been a challenging task for global companies that cater to markets of varying languages and typefaces. Hundreds of languages stretching from American English and German to Arabic, Mandarin Chinese. and Japanese must be considered when designing communications.

Seeing an ambitious opportunity to bring the world's tongues and letters closer together, multinational communications company Nokia, in partnership with design firm Dalton Maag, has released a font specifically designed to work in any language, simply named "Pure."

Nokia's Pure stems from the company's need to develop a typeface that was versatile enough to support global communications in the Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic and Hebrew alphabets, as well as the Devanagari and Thai scripts.
