It's going to be a very merry Christmas this year.

The state of Alaska voted in favor of legalizing marijuana in November, making the possession of cannabis legal for any adult 21-years of age and older in February of 2015. However, individuals towns could still block the sale of marijuana, and on Monday, the town of North Pole took a vote to decide if pot shops would be allowed within its limits.

According to the Alaska-based website News Miner, the City Council voted 5-2 against an ordinance banning marijuana sales.

A debate preceded the vote, and even Santa Claus (seriously, the man's actual name is "Santa Claus") showed up to discuss the matter.

“As far as the image goes here at North Pole, how do most people perceive Santa Claus?” Claus said during the debate. “I would say Santa Claus is a pretty jolly fellow."

Claus is a medical marijuana patient, and in order for him to obtain his medicine, he would have to travel to the city of Fairbanks in order purchase it.

Although it is legal to obtain up to one ounce of marijuana and grow up to six marijuana plants in the state of Alaska, the state is still working on its regulations and pot shops won't be open for business until 2016.
