Finland is pretty flat -- the country's highest point is on a hillside rising just 4,340 feet above sea level.

But some of the country's Norwegian neighbors have launched a campaign asking the government to shift its border to gift Finland a new mountain peak. Pushing the border just 650 feet north and 490 feet west would leave the peak of Halti mountain in Finnish territory, making it the the new highest point in Finland at 4,479 feet.

The group is proposing the change as a gift for Finland's 100th anniversary of independence.

“My idea is that this should be a gift from the Norwegian people and I feel sure that the Finnish people would appreciate it,” Bjørn Geirr Harsson, 75-year-old retiree behind the proposal, told UK newspaper the Telegraph. Harsson is a retired geodesist and launched a Facebook campaign proposing the change.

A few thousand people have liked the page and a handful of them have added messages of support on the "Halti as an anniversary gift" Facebook.

“It would not change the square kilometer size of Norway or Finland,” Harsson said. “But it would make a big difference that the highest point in Finland would be on a mountain peak and not on a hillside.”

Harsson first had the idea in to move the border back in 1972, when flying over the area while working for the government. The Norwegian Mapping authority has voiced support for the measure, though has made no commitment to actually follow through on it.

Anne Cathrine Frøstrup, the head of the Norwegian Mapping Authority, told Norway's state broadcaster NRK that she received an email from Harsson last week about the idea.

“It is a very good idea,” she said. "It is a nice gift to give to a country that lacks a high mountain, where the highest point isn’t even a peak.”

Finnish people on social media are also voicing their support for the proposal.

What a wonderful gift it would be from #Norway to get the actual summit of #Halti! Yay Norwegians! https://t.co/pNpGPKagNo— Jeriko Fox (@JerikoFox) December 17, 2015
