Nvidia tablet recalled for literally being too hot to handle

Nvidia is voluntarily recalling its SHIELD 8-inch gaming tablet.

The company announced on Friday morning that it's issuing a voluntary recall of all SHIELD tablets sold between July of 2014 and July of 2015 over safety concerns. Apparently the battery can overheat and pose a fire hazard.

When Mashable reviewed the gun-metal gray, Android device last year, it was a standout for video and battery performance. It's one of the only tablets of its size that supports full-HD (1080p) Netflix streaming.

And it also boasted nearly 13 hours of battery life.

Nvidia, which is probably best known for its graphics cards and chips launched the SHIELD line of products in 2013. They include the tablet, a portable gaming device and an Android based set-top box.

Nvidia is asking customers to stop using the tablet and visit this page a customer page for details on how to return the device. Those who register will get a replacement tablet. The company says this recall does not impact any other Nvidia products.
