NYC Pride hosted its annual Pride March on Sunday, in advocacy and celebration of the LGBT community. Over 50 floats rolled down the streets of midtown and downtown Manhattan, along with drag queens, support groups, politicians and celebrity guests. About 1.7 million people attended the event, according to NYC Pride. This year's grand marshals included actress Laverne Cox (of Orange Is the New Black fame), actor Jonathan Groff and activist Rea Carey.

Mashable took to the boisterous and glitter-sprinkled streets to create Vine videos and livestream the event in its entirety.

We also interviewed march-goers to find out what appealed to them about the colorful celebration. They described the day as "hot, electric and high." Others named Lady Gaga an important LGBT icon.
