Watch Barack and Michelle Obama Discuss the Hug That Won the Internet

If you spend any time at all on social media, it was the hug heard 'round the world.

Yes, we are talking of course about the shot of an embracing Barack and Michelle Obama that the president's social media team shared via Twitter and Facebook on Election Night in November. The photo quickly became the most retweeted Twitter post of all-time and the most-Liked Facebook post ever.

It's now gained more than a million combined retweets and favorites, and the First Couple recently gave the backstory behind the photo in a sit-down with ABC News interviewer Barbara Walters. The extended interview is set to air Wednesday night, but embedded above is the relevant clip for social media-philes and fans of extremely cute moments.

President Obama says the embrace was captured at a campaign stop in Iowa, and the First Lady adds that it was the first time they'd seen one another in "a while" after non-stop campaigning.

So why did Obama give her such a hard hug?

"Because I love my wife," he tells Walters emphatically.

Sometimes the biggest moments have the simplest explanations.
