Mitt Romney's website loads more than two seconds faster on average than Barack Obama's homepage, according to a new analysis.

Apica, a load testing and performance monitoring firm, pinged both websites once every half-hour throughout September from an office on the west coast of the United States. On average, MittRomney.com took only 2.47 seconds to load, while BarackObama.com needed 4.65 seconds.

Both sites are similarly structured, so the speed differential is likely due to one or both of two reasons: Romney's using a better hosting service and/or Obama's getting more traffic, slowing down his site.

Mashable tested the second theory using Alexa, which ranks the world's most popular websites by traffic. According to its rankings, MittRomney.com has a worldwide rank of 4,729 and a national rank of 811. BarackObama.com, on the other hand, has a worldwide rank of 1,790 and a national rank of 332.

While Romney's site is loading faster, Obama's page is significantly more popular -- possibly the reason it takes longer to load.
