First revealed at the Oculus Connect event back in September, the Oculus Arcade app has finally been released.

The app, which lets you play old school arcade games in virtual reality, will work on existing Gear VR devices and Samsung Gear VR smartphones as well as the upcoming consumer version of the Oculus headset.

Taking gamers into virtual arcades that include classic games from Midway, Bandai Namco and Sega, the experience might just be the best way to capture some of that old school, pop-a-quarter magic from the '80s.

Thanks to a video capture from Road to VR, we can see that the app is able to deliver the virtual experience of playing games like Pac-Mac and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Not shown are other classic games that will be available in Arcade -- such as Galaga (for some, the best game ever), Defender, Virtua Fighter 2, Shinobi III and many others.

The virtual arcade perfectly replicates the lighting and overall feel of old school gaming halls, all the way down to the Vegas casino-style carpeting.

In addition to the virtual reality app, the company also announced that pre-orders for the consumer version of the Samsung Gear VR device are now live and will ship to consumers on November 20.

Earlier this year, the company promised that it would deliver the $99 VR headset before Black Friday -- and this update means they'll just about make it.
