You can reserve your very own Oculus Rift headset starting on Jan. 6 when pre-orders go live.
The pre-order process opens at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m ET, and Oculus VR promises to share "everything you need to know to order your Rift" on that day. "Everything" presumably includes the head-mounted display's price, which remains a no-show for now.
Previous Oculus developer kit pricing hovered in the $300-400 range, though it was non-final tech that didn't include the now-built-in headphones and other assorted improvements introduced with/since the "Crescent Bay" prototype debuted at Oculus Connect 2014.
It's not clear if Oculus will just offer the headset or if bundles will be available that package the Rift with a computer capable of supporting it. As was previously announced, using a Rift will require a fairly powerful Windows machine equipped with (at minimum) an i5 4590 or equivalent CPU, 8GB of RAM, three USB 3.0 ports (and one USB 2.0 port), an HDMI port and a GeForce GTX 970 graphics cad.
Every version of the Rift includes the game Lucky's Tale as a free pack-in, and all pre-orders will additionally include EVE: Valkyrie, the space combat sim that's been a mainstay of Oculus demos since mid-2013.
