Rock band OK Go's formula of pairing its songs with imaginative music videos continues with "The Writing's on the Wall" -- the lead single from the group's fourth album, Hungry Ghosts.

The song's video, which takes viewers on a mind-boggling journey through several optical illusions involving various props and 3D elements, is a fast-paced visual treat that was shot in one take after more than four dozen attempts.

"What's nice about getting it in one take is that you're actually watching an experience unfold, like a magic trick or a sporting event," bassist Tim Nordwind told Mashable.

Mashable went behind the scenes to see how everything came together:

The new effort is one of those video fans have grown to expect from OK Go, dating back to the Chicago natives' 2006 treadmill-based dance video for "Here It Goes Again."

We saw similar inventiveness with OK Go's "Needing/Getting" and "All Not Lost."

The Hungry Ghosts album comes out Oct. 14 but is now available for pre-order with optional extra goodies on direct-to-fan music platform PledgeMusic.
