Not surprisingly, however, these rankings don't have a ton to do with how good a team actually is. Each week, Facebook counts and weights total mentions and percentage increase for key terms associated with college football teams to produce its power rankings.

Alabama and Oregon are undefeated, while they're both popular teams that by default gain plenty of buzz, most of their games have been lopsided from the start -- most likely the reason for their middling rankings.

South Carolina and Mississippi State have achieved perfect synergy, with their Facebook and Associated Press rankings matching up at three and 19, respectively. Texas A&M, meanwhile, jumped into both the Facebook and IRL (that's "in real life," for people who don't live on the internet) top 25 rankings after a big comeback win against Ole Miss this week.

Here below is the entire college football top 25 through Oct. 7, according to Facebook buzz. Teams' IRL rankings are included in parenthesis, while the far right column shows where they ranked in Facebook buzz before the most recent round of games.
