One Direction tours the world, sells out stadiums, breaks hearts -- and files its tax paperwork. The band paid £8.24 million ($12.5 million) in UK corporate taxes last year, compared to Facebook's £4,327.

Sales of the band's albums, concert tickets and merchandise led the band to a pretax profit of £45.4 million, 10-times the previous year's figure, while its costs have gone down, according to trade publication Music Business Worldwide.

The band's five original members -- Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson -- became owners of equal shares of 1D Media in 2010.

Their accounts are audited by accounting firm Grant Thornton, and Payne signs off on them on behalf of his bandmates.

U.S. corporations, like Facebook, Amazon and Starbucks, have been under fire in the UK for the amount of corporate taxes they pay. In 2014, Facebook paid £4,327 in UK corporate tax, as it made a loss of £28.5 million after it paid its UK staff £35 million in share bonuses.

The One Direction fandom didn't have time to get too excited about their idols' tax filing though, as they were getting geared up for the release of the band's fifth album "Made in the A.M." on Friday. It might be the last one for a while -- the remaining four members of the band plan to go on hiatus in March 2016 to pursue solo careers.
