The hype train ends tonight. At 7 p.m. PT, OnePlus will finally take the wraps off the highly anticipated smartphone OnePlus 2, the successor to last year's surprise hit, the OnePlus One.

Instead of holding a special event and inviting the media, OnePlus is streaming the launch event live, in virtual reality -- to anyone with a smartphone and Google Cardboard.

Will the livestream crash over technical difficulties, as even 2D livestreams are known to do? We don't know, but we're going to be watching along in VR.

Mashable senior tech correspondent Christina Warren has volunteered to strap Google Cardboard to her face and provide commentary as the event happens live. You can follow us on the Meerkat stream below and on Periscope under the Mashable account.
