Is the OnePlus 2 really a flagship killer?
Now that the hype has settled, it's time to put the newly announced OnePlus 2 under the microscope to see how it really compares to this year's flagship Android smartphones.
While smartphones aren't purely about the specs, the numbers still provide a good picture of what to expect.
The OnePlus 2 has a nice, large 5.5-inch display, but its resolution and pixel density is low -- compared to the Galaxy S6, LG G4 and Moto X Style. That's undoubtedly because not only was OnePlus trying to keep the pricing low (more on that soon), but also because fewer pixels means better battery life. While not removable, the OnePlus 2 has the longest-lasting battery among its competitors.
The phone should be a speedy device, though. It uses version 2.1 of Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a chip prone to overheating; OnePlus promises the revised 810 chip will run cooler. The 16GB model also comes with 3GB of RAM and the 64GB has 4GB of RAM. All that RAM should keep Android 5.1 and the OxygenOS skin running smooth with little or no lag.
The cameras don't intend to kill the Galaxy S6 or LG G4's shooters, but it should be able to hold its own.
To the disappointment of many fans, the OnePlus 2 doesn't have NFC (OnePlus says no one uses it), wireless charging or even quick-charging. There's also still no microSD card for storage expansion, but at least you get a reversible USB Type-C port.
Where the OnePlus crushes the competition is in pricing. A 16GB starts at $329 and a 64GB starts at $399; the Moto X Style starts at $399, but that's for a 16GB model.
