Does this signal that another Google handset might be in the works following the launch of the G1 on T-Mobile back in September? Perhaps. Google says that the new members will “either deploy compatible Android devices, contribute significant code to the Android Open Source Project, or support the ecosystem through products and services that will accelerate the availability of Android-based devices.”

In total, the Open Handset Alliance now includes 9 different carriers, including T-Mobile and Sprint-Nextel in the US. Verizon has also announced plans to support Android, though they are still not officially part of the alliance.
