How do you find out about cool places and interesting events happening in your vicinity? As it turns out, most voters here at the Open Web Awards seem to use the standard, most often used social networks, but one specialized site has managed to slip into the finals. The finalists are:

Evite is all about parties and events; therefore, it's the logical choice for this category. However, it lacks the user base of the other two competitors. You need to decide whether it's better to be small and focused or simply huge.

Really, there's no need to introduce the largest social network around, and given its vast user base, it's no wonder that many users still find it the best place to find about places and events. For a blast from the past, read Pete's insightful article on MySpace from 2006.

And, if there's anyone that can dethrone MySpace in the foreseeable future, it's Facebook. It's been growing quickly, it gathered a hefty amount of cash, and seemingly, it can't be stopped. But is it the best place to find about events? You be the judge.
