Microsoft suffered a setback today in attempts to get its Office Open XML file format accepted as an international standard for office documents by the International Organization for Standardization.
When attempting to get anything adopted by the ISO, the proposal must go through two voting tests. The first is to win support of two-thirds of the national standards bodies that worked on the proposal, and the second is to convince three-quarters of the all voting members. According to Microsoft's own information, they failed on both counts.
