LONDON -- A woman who questioned the way Whole Foods packages oranges has prompted an in-depth debate on Twitter.
London-based advertising creative Nathalie Gordon tweeted a photo of the offending packaging, which features pre-peeled oranges in plastic containers, writing: “If only nature would find a way to cover these oranges so we didn’t need to waste so much plastic on them.”

Whole Foods has chosen to remove the product from its shelves, opting to keep oranges in their "natural packaging."
@awlilnatty Definitely our mistake. These have been pulled. We hear you, and we will leave them in their natural packaging: the peel.— Whole Foods Market (@WholeFoods) March 3, 2016
However, not everyone backed Whole Foods' decision to pull the product, with some arguing that the pre-peeled oranges might be of use to people who have limited use of their hands, such as people with arthritis or rheumatism.
@WholeFoods @awlilnatty I'm so sorry you've decided to do that. I have rheumatoid disease and it's often impossible to peel an orange.— pschiendelman (@pschiendelman) March 4, 2016
@WholeFoods @awlilnatty yeah but it's helpful for people who can't peel oranges.— Spider Doof Warrior (@chromesthesia) March 3, 2016
.@WholeFoods @awlilnatty how do you feel about preventing disabled people from eating fresh fruit because some cracker complained— goblin of color (@decolonizeupdog) March 4, 2016
.@WholeFoods @awlilnatty Please dont. A lot of ppl with disabilities like arthritis see them as a lifesaver, and don't appreciate the "joke"— Kevin Carson Ⓐ (@KevinCarson1) March 4, 2016
