Residents in China's capital city have been dealing its smog for years, but things got especially out of hand earlier in the week when air pollution levels shot to a 13-month high.

In response, Beijingers have been posting photos of the city, with its most famous landmarks outlined -- in case you missed them.

Here's the China World Trade Centre Tower III, Beijing's tallest building:

Chinese magazine Wu Jie News posted a series, too.

Beijing continues to grapple with the smog. On Wednesday, the city managed to breathe again after strong winds helped to clear up the skies somewhat, offering residents a bit of respite from the air pollution, which was raised to a new "orange" alert level on Monday.

In this timelapse recorded on Wednesday, it shows the winds blowing the smog away and revealing blue skies over the city. (The timelapse starts at the 19 second mark.)

But it appears the relief might be quite temporary. On Friday, a Weibo user called Yihewulao lamented the forecast for the smog, which is expected to return soon.
