SYDNEY -- Most know the Australian city for the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Sydney Opera House. Now it may be known as the place of the giant Cloud Arch or the oversized Milk Crate.

Although Melbourne still generally wins in the ugly stakes -- Federation Square has been described as a local disgrace since its constuction -- the people of Sydney are not talking kindly about two new artworks coming to their city.

The Cloud Arch by Japanese artist Junya Ishigami is the focal piece of the City of Sydney's "City Centre Public Art Plan," which will decorate the pedestrian-only zone through the centre of the city. The steel arch will tower over Town Hall at more than 50 metres above street level.

Without missing a beat, Sydneysiders took to social media to mock the unconventional art works, unveiled by Sydney Mayor Lord Clover Moore on Tuesday.

And if the Cloud Arch wasn't enough fun for one day, Sydneysiders will also be given Pavilion by Sydney-based Egyptian-born artist Hany Armanious. The work is a space designed for a park in central Sydney in the shape of a milk crate and will stand 13.7 metres tall.

Let the second round of insults begin.
