'Pacific Rim' Game Pits Custom Robots Against Monsters

A new online action game for Pacific Rim, the upcoming science-fiction film directed by Guillermo del Toro, brings the movie's oceanic monsters to your computer screen.

To help you fend off the destructive fiends in Pacific Rim: Jaeger Combat Simulator, the game lets your create a Jaeger -- a giant robot controlled by humans -- and arm it with your weapons of choice. The game connects to your Facebook profile to build your robot.

Game creators worked with filmmakers to mimic the Pacific Rim movie's look and feel as well as the movement and fighting styles of the monsters and robots. The game infuses original voiceovers and "Just a Memory," a song from the movie's forthcoming soundtrack, to add a auditory connection to the film.

Just like in the movie, the human-killing creatures, known as Kaiju, have risen from beneath the Pacific Ocean to wreak havoc on land. In the game, it's your duty to save humanity from extinction by co-piloting one of the 300-feet-tall robots.

Your robot (or the game's default robots) traverse five battlefield scenarios, equipped with weapons like anti-Kaiju missles, plasma cannons and chain swords.

Pacific Rim arrives in theaters and in IMAX 3D on July 12. Watch the Pacific Rim trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
