The follow-up to last year's ambitious but not-quite successful Palm Pre, the Pre 2 will have a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. That's a big boost over the 600 MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM of its predecessor, and it's competitive with other top smartphones on the market today, including the iPhone 4 and the Droid 2. According to SFR, this boost in specs will increase loading times and allow for smooth multitasking.
That's all we know about the hardware specs, but SFR also claims the Pre will push notifications of Facebook wall posts and other social media updates kind of like the Pre already does with e-mails. It's a welcome feature for the connected consumer, but it's nothing revolutionary.
Don't worry, though; there's still plenty more we don't know about the Pre — including its pricing and availability.
Palm was once prominent in the mobile market, but after it suffered a bout of financial troubles it was acquired by HP, which has since promised more devices running webOS (the Pre's operating system) next year. Apparently the Pre 2 will run webOS 2.0, but we're not sure of all the features yet.
