Panasonic really wants you to start recording in 4K.

The company announced on Thursday its latest 4K mirrorless camera, the GX8. The $1,100 body-only camera is a step up from the $800 G7 announced a couple of months ago.

The 20.3-megapixel GX8 comes in a sleek retro-inspired design that's splash and dust proof. The camera can shoot 8 frames per second (fps) on continuous burst mode in single autofocus mode and 6 fps in continuous autofocus mode. It also has a maximum ISO of 25,600.

The GX8 has what Panasonic calls Dual I.S. -- body and lens stabilization -- to reduce vibrations and allow for crisper hand-held shots.

The marquee feature is, of course, its 4K video recording capabilities. The camera can record 4K footage at 3,840 x 2,160 resolution (QFHD 4K) at 30p or 24p. Additionally, you can extract 8-megapixel still photos from video footage, just like on the G7.

On the back, you'll find a 3-inch touchscreen that rotates 180-degrees up and tilts up 250-degrees -- perfect for shooting photos above and below you.

And like every modern camera, the GX7 has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC for connecting to a smartphone or tablet.

The GX8 will be available in mid-August in two color models: black, and black/silver.
