Want emoji pancakes? Your dreams may soon come true.

The Unicode Consortium Thursday announced that it had added seven new emoji candidates for consideration as part of Unicode 9.0, which is due in May.

The newest emoji candidates include emoji for shrimp, squid, egg, glass of milk, peanuts, kiwifruit and pancakes.

These seven emoji characters join the 67 other emoji candidates already in consideration for Unicode 9.0. Other candidates for Unicode 9.0 include bacon, a shrug, face palm, selfie, prince and groom emoji (to compliment the existing princess and bride emoji characters).

The Unicode Consortium is a working group that decides which emoji characters are "official." Once a character is approved, it's up to platforms that support emoji to choose what characters they support and how.

Just because a character is an emoji candidate doesn't mean it will get approved and become part of the final Unicode 9.0 specification. Still, the good news is, we're one step closer to having pancake emoji.
