"It's crazy how 'handicaps' can easily disappear on a bike."

Having followed Paralympic track cycling for almost two years, Italian photographer Paolo Martelli told Mashable that he believes people are the "owners of our own limits." He got the opportunity to photograph the Spanish Paralympic Track Championships this year, hoping to share the beauty, strength and athleticism of these cyclists who defy their so called handicaps.

He largely focused on the Genesis Cycling Team which took home 15 medals, including four gold, at the event held this past weekend.

Martelli says, according to a translation of his website, that Paralympic competitions "almost never have any spectators, only relatives of the athletes to cheer them on. If you could see what I see every time I go, you would be [there] too."
