BOSTON — Dick's Sporting Goods said it plans to donate gear touting the New England Patriots for the Super Bowl to a nonprofit.

The Patriots lost 20-18 to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Matt Catacchio, community marketing manager at Dick's, tells the Boston Globe the T-shirts and hats will go to World Vision and be distributed to "countries in need."

He says it's been a longstanding practice to donate the losing team's championship merchandise. In past years, World Vision has sent the gear to Haiti and El Salvador.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization working in nearly 100 countries to tackle poverty. Alex Trebek, the popular host of the quiz show Jeopardy! is one of its spokespeople.
