The second season finale of Showtime's Penny Dreadful really "scorched the earth," as executive producer John Logan once put it -- but apparently, from those ashes will rise a few new allies for the core group.
Enter Perdita Weeks, a Tudors alum whom Mashable has learned will join Season 3 in an important role.

Weeks will play a character named Catriona Hartdegan, a rebellious scholar whose knowledge of the supernatural -- and wicked sense of humor -- will turn her into "an invaluable ally in battling the dark forces" alongside Vanessa (Eva Green), Ethan (Josh Hartnett) and Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton), according to a network description.
Viewers probably best know Weeks for playing Mary Boleyn on Showtime drama The Tudors, which wrapped up its run in 2010.
Penny Dreadful wrapped up Season 2 back in July with an episode that saw the main group more fractured than ever in the face of several major losses. (RIP still, Evelyn)
The show is currently in production in Dublin, Ireland and its 9-episode third season is set to debut in 2016.
