LONDON -- Beatrix Potter's beloved rabbit -- complete with his little blue jacket -- will be the first literary character to appear on the British 50p coin.

To mark the 150th anniversary of Potter's birth, Peter Rabbit will be the first special edition coin out of a four-piece set celebrating the author, according to Sky News.

Emma Noble, the designer behind the new coin, created by the Royal Mint, said she "wanted to put Beatrix Potter's illustrations to the forefront" of her design as they're "lovely images and the characters are very well known".

The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was the first to be picked up by children's publishers Frederick Warne & Co and featured in five more books by Potter.

With only 15000 available, the limited-edition uncirculated coins will cost you between £10 and £55.
