LONDON -- So here's a weasel on a woodpecker.

The furry hitchhiker was caught on camera in east London's Hornchurch Country Park by photographer Martin Le-May and caught the attention of a Twitter user on Monday night.

While it might look like an adorable pairing, Le-May reckons the wily weasel had supper on its mind.

“As we walked we heard a distressed squawking and I saw that flash of green," he told reporters.

"The woodpecker was unnaturally hopping about like it was treading on a hot surface. Just after I switched from my binoculars to my camera the bird flew across us and slightly in our direction; suddenly it was obvious it had a small mammal on its back and this was a struggle for life."

Le-May said the bird and mini-beast landed nearby and his presence distracted the weasel, allowing the woodpecker to escape alive.
