PicApp Public Beta Means Free Pictures for Bloggers

PicApp was borne from a parent company called PicScout, which helps content owners identify copyright infringements online. PicScout eventually realized that an alternative business model involves providing the images for free, with ads, as noted by GigaOm. The site is now launching its public beta.

The result is a searchable database of images from the likes of Getty Images and Corbis, which can then be embedded onto your site. Choose the image size you want, and grab the code. PicApps places a fairly non-intrusive advertisement over the image, and some sponsored links. The good thing about services like PicApp is that it provides a perfectly legal option for self-publishers out there.

You may not get the most recent images of all the top celebrities for free (in the event that you want to take on Perez Hilton), but for the average blogger out there, PicApp has a good amount of stock and event images that can be used for posts. Still, PicApp is a very simplistic approach and could layer in some more features to make it even more appealing.
