It's acquisition week, it seems. Pickle, the photo sharing site that began as a way to send photos via email, struggled, and then relaunched as a more generic photo and video sharing service, has been acquired by Scripps Networks, a division of media conglomerate E.W. Scripps.

Technically, they're purchasing parent company Arlington, Va.-based Incando Corp, but there are no other major properties owned by the company aside from Pickle.com. The price hasn't been disclosed - mid single digit millions would be reasonable, but reason doesn't seem to be a guiding principle of acquisitions at the moment.

I'm not aware of Pickle having many users, and there's no mention of numbers in the release, suggesting this is a technology buy first and foremost. But I like the technology - they were just a little late to the game and unable to realize early on that plugging in to social networks like MySpace, and later Facebook, was the only way for those sites to gain traction at the time.
