Good news first: Pitch Perfect 3 is on the way.
Bad news: It's not landing in theaters until July 21, 2017. Welp.
A third installment of the film series starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and more is kind of a no-brainer. The sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, recently hit number one at the box office, raking in a cool $70.3 million in its opening weekend.
It's also one of few mainstream blockbusters to pass the Bechdel Test, an informal metric that highlights gender bias in a film by measuring how many women are in it and whether they talk to each other about something besides men.

The film's recently-released sequel was directed by actress and Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks. A director for the third film has not yet been announced, but Banks did happily tweet out the news of the upcoming third installment. Pitch Perfect 2, which was her feature-length directorial debut, was the second highest gross opening for a movie directed by a woman. That certainly doesn't hurt her chances of helming the third round.

Anna Kendrick also tweeted and Instagrammed the news. The Oscar-nominated actress was catapulted to household-name status after the surprise success of the first Pitch Perfect back in 2012.
