Parents just don't understand.

Before audiences meet Disney/Pixar's Good Dinosaur this November, they'll be introduced to little Sanjay -- the star of the studio's next short, Sanjay's Super Team. The brief film may look like an Incredibles spinoff, but it actually goes much deeper.

The basic plot: Sanjay loves Western pop culture; his more traditional father doesn't. When Sanjay's dad tries to get his son to say his morning prayers, Sanjay imagines the Hindu pantheon as a set of superheroes who band together to save him.

Director Sanjay Patel, who grew up in San Bernardino, says the short is partly based on his own childhood. The longtime Pixar animator told Variety that he was a "late bloomer in my parents’ culture."

Ten years into working for the studio on movies including Monsters Inc., Toy Story 2, and, yes, The Incredibles, he developed a new appreciation for Indian culture.

“It helped me understand my parents, why they said, ‘Sita Ram,’ when I sneezed.”
