The $1 million figure is especially telling, considering that the affordable Photoshop-alternative was previously available as a standalone app for years prior to the Mac App Store's release. The application maker now, however, exclusively sells its product through this channel.
Also of note, Pixelmator opted to reduce its price tag from $59.99 to $29.99 for a limited time. The cheaper price tag, combined with Apple's reach, spawned more than 33,000 downloads in less than three weeks.
“The 30% [price] cut is definitely worth it,” Pixelmator co-founder Aidas Dailide shared with Digital Daily. “The increase in sales and exposure is worth much more than that. Especially in our case.”
