Pixilis, which is currently in private beta, is an upcoming site from Codency, the Montreal-based creators of the file storage site GigaSize. It's a fairly straightforward photo and video-sharing site, with features like batch uploading of images, tagging, commenting, favorites, a network of friends and the ability to share photos and clips via email. And of course you can link to files and embed them on MySpace and blogs. Free accounts come with 500MB of storage, while Pro accounts get 2GB - there's currently no price listed for the paid option, but you can get a free upgrade if you invite 25 friends. They're early in development, with less than 100 users, and the video section is still being developed. They are however, off to a decent start, with an intuitive interface that's fun to use.

What's vaguely interesting about Pixilis is that they'll enable users to trade content. Using "Pixilis credits", an internal currency that's very similar to the system used on stock photo sites, you'll be able to license images and videos from other users. Could "stock videos" be a strong market? The stock photo services certainly seem to think so, with sites like iStockPhoto debuting video sections this year. That said, it's not yet clear how Pixilis will differentiate itself from the scores of Flickr, Webshots and YouTube clones out there - perhaps that'll become clearer as they near public launch.
