In 2009, Pizza Hut released its iPhone app, and the company claims to have been the first player in the pizza segment to do so. Within three months, the app had generated more than $1 million in sales.
Since then, rivals Domino’s and Papa John’s have both released iPhone apps. But, once again, Pizza Hut claims to be ahead of the curve. The company says it's the first major fast food delivery chain to release an iPad app.
Tressie Lieberman, senior manager of digital marketing for Pizza Hut, envisions consumers using the app when they're watching TV at home with the device on their lap. "People like to pull out the iPad," she says. "You don't have to start up your computer." Another scenario: people who use their iPad for work launch the app around 5 p.m., when they're contemplating dinner.
Lieberman says the introduction of the Android app is based on the "tremendous growth" in that platform.
