While most of the day has been devoted to coverage of the proposed Microsoft-Yahoo deal, there is some pretty significant news out of Google as well: the launch of the Social Graph API. As Mark described earlier, “it’s used by social app developers to let their users grab information on their social connections across the internet.”
The first application of the new API comes from Plaxo Pulse, which is launching a Public Profiles feature. Essentially, this creates a publicly accessible version of your Pulse feed, which displays all of your recent activities across your various social networks. Here’s what a public profile looks like:

Thus, Plaxo is positioning itself to be a destination for people to manage their public identity online. As more sites adopt Google’s Social Graph API, users will be able to use their Plaxo Public Profile to tell a particular service where else they can be found online.
