Sword Fights! Car Racing! Guns! PlayStation 4 Airs First TV Spot

The PlayStation 4 is only 30 days from release in North America, and Sony has started the inevitable flood of advertising with a spot glamorizing playing with your friends.

The advertisement shows two men competing in various generic game settings -- first in armor with swords, then in a high-speed car race, then in a futuristic military battle -- all while singing lines from Lou Reed's "Perfect Day".

In the first TV ad for the PlayStation 4, there are remarkably no images of the console, the controller or even a TV. It instead focuses on gameplay, even if the activities these two are competing in are only archetypes of gameplay. The driving game and futuristic shooter could represent two of the PS4's exclusive launch titles: Drive Club and Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Sony's messaging for the PlayStation 4 has focused on core gamers since the console was announced in February. The company has touted exclusive games, including a slew of AAA and indie titles, instead of focusing on the console as an entertainment solution -- which is Microsoft's strategy for the Xbox One.

The PlayStation 4 will be available on Nov. 15 in North America and on Nov. 29 in Europe.
