This is awkward.

You all know PlayStation, right? Gaming behemoth? Successfully shepherded the sons and daughters of the Atari and NES eras into video game adulthood? No big deal. Well, PlayStation turned 20 on Sept. 9.

Don't forget about Dreamcast. The machine that put Sega out of the console race completely. It was supposed to go toe-to-toe with the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. No one even knew what an "Xbox" was when Dreamcast arrived. But it wasn't meant to be. The Dreamcast turned 16 on Sept. 9.

They're both super important moments in gaming history, but you know what else happened Sept. 9? Apple. We got so caught up in gawking at the planetoid-sized iPad and Apple TWii that we forgot all about our roots.

So now we're the garbage friends posting on your Facebook wall with a sheepish "Happy birthday, bud!" (Wait, no, should I have gone with "pal" or "friend" or "bro" instead?)

Sorry.
