Sony's music streaming service, Music Unlimited, never managed to gain traction. So in January, the company announced that it would partner with Spotify for a new service called PlayStation Music, which officially replaced Music Unlimited on Monday.

The new service, which is available for PlayStations 3 and 4, went live in 41 countries, including the U.S., UK, Turkey, Ireland, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, Brazil and Mexico. It lets users connect to their Spotify accounts, stream music, access playlists -- curated as well as their own -- and search for artists and albums.

But perhaps the most interesting feature is the ability to play music in the background while gaming on the PlayStation.

The interface is visually similar to Spotify's offering on desktop and in its mobile apps. You can choose which songs, albums or playlists to listen to in your games.

The service works even with the free, ad-supported version of Spotify; of course, those who want to get rid of the ads can pay $10 per month for Spotify Premium. New users will receive a free trial, and users who previously paid for Sony's Music Unlimited get a 60-day free trial of PlayStation Music.
