Pluggd, the audio and video search engine we've covered many times before, has raised $6 million in a round led by original seed investor Intel Capital, with DFJ Frontier, Labrador Ventures and the Band of Angels also participating.

Pluggd got a little buzz in March when it launched a Twitter This feature (post to Twitter when you listen to a podcast), but a more notable change came in June with an audio search deal with CNet. Competitors include EveryZing, which got a $10 million round in June. Adam Ostrow explained the Pluggd technology in the CNet post:

Pluggd’s search tool utilizes speech recognition and patterns to identify points in an audio file that match your search terms. For example, searching for “Apple” in a podcast about the iPhone will return a “heat map” showing you points in the file that may be of interest to you, with brighter colors indicating a more likely match. Thus, instead of listening through an entire audio file to find the points of interest, you can search for them and jump right to what you’re looking for.

The round at the end of 2006 got them $1.65 million.
