Though you might think they're reserved just for grandfathers and boy scouts, pocketknives are a tradition in a tiny French town.

The knife-making history in Laguiole dates back more than two centuries. Laguiole knives were known for their craftsmanship and folding design. The basic knife was elaborated on when a trademark notch on the top and other features - like corkscrews - were later added. In 1987, the Forge De Laguiole opened its doors to restart the manufacture of Laguiole knives in the village of Laguiole. The factory uses traditional techniques to create the famous pocketknives.

According to Getty, French economic output picked up in October to the fastest in four months as growth in manufacturing and services accelerated.
