If you stopped counting after the original 151 Pokémon -- and are only concerned with picking a favorite between Squirtle, Charmander and Bulbasaur -- Nintendo has your number.

The three original American Pokémon games, Red, Blue and Yellow, are coming to Nintendo's 3DS in all their black-and-white glory next year. The release date, Feb. 27, 2016, marks the 20-year anniversary of the franchise's first release in Japan.

The games will appear just as they did in the 1990s, meaning there will be no extra colors or flashy animations to distract from hunting and battling Pokémon. The only change is the lack of link cable, an extra piece of equipment you needed to trade and battle with your friends on the original Game Boy. Instead, the games will use wifi to create the same feeling, and probably at faster speeds. (Though this means you can't unplug the link cable in the middle, a surefire way to make clones of rare Pokémon across Game Boys.)

Nintendo didn't mention any other details that will make these re-releases different from the original versions, but since many old Game Boy cartridges may not be playable because of their internal batteries -- designed to keep a game saved even when the Game Boy was turned off -- ,his may be the best way to re-experience the original games.

That said, those batteries last about 15 years -- so unless you changed your battery and backed up your game, all of your original, saved Pokémon are now in Poké-Heaven.
