As Pope Francis made his way through the streets of Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, throngs of supporters waved and passed babies to the pope to receive his blessing.

He has been met with cheering crowds at every turn during his first visit to the U.S.

But for some, a papal blessing was the last thing on their mind, instead they had their hearts set on the must-have keepsake of the visit: The Pope selfie.

A group of Lithuanian students first made the bold move on Wednesday morning as Pope Francis prepared to travel from the Vatican residence he is staying in while in Washington for an official visit at the white house. The teens, dressed in traditional clothing, managed to snap selfies with the smiling pontiff.

Enija Davidonyte, seen in the video above snapping a selfie with Pope Francis, later posted the photo to her Facebook page.

"I feel absolutely blessed! I met with Pope Francis today and actually got to take a picture and meet him," wrote Davidonyte. "If it wasn't for my Lithuanian school and monsignor Rolandas I don't think I would have experienced this once in a life time moment."

Not everyone had the opportunity to get up close and personal with Pope Francis, but that didn't stop them from bringing their best selfie game.

While Pope selfies are thriving, don't even think about bringing a selfie stick to any of Francis' public appearances. The Secret Service has banned selfie sticks at any events where Francis will be present.
