They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They probably never mean a potato's eye, though.

Celebrity photographer Kevin Abosch recently reported that he sold this photo of a potato for 1 million euros, or approximately $1,074,003.75 US. Abosch priced the photo and refused to back down after a European Businessman, who preferred to remain anonymous, saw it in the artist's Paris home. His strategy worked.

"I see commonalities between humans and potatoes that speak to our relationship as individuals within a collective species." Abosch told Mashable. "Generally, the life of a harvested potato is violent and taken for granted. I use the potato as a proxy for the ontological study of the human experience."

The photo, at just 162 centimeters by 162 centimeters, was composed by placing a simple potato against a black background, and then photographing it with just a single light.

Outside potatoes, Abosch has previously photographed Stephen Spielberg, Johnny Depp and Yoko Ono.
