Has Pownce found a new way to compete against Twitter? The latest feature for the microblogging competitor is the ability to share files, up to 250 MB for premium accounts (100 MB for the rest of us) with anyone--even non-users--reports Venturebeat .

So it looks like Pownce is going distinctly down the file-sharing route. When you think about it, this is a natural progression for Pownce, as it already enables you to share links, blurbs, photo embeds, etc. And while the public file-sharing is reminiscent of services like Box.net, there's a different type of utility that its inclusion with microblogging affords us.

When it comes to self-broadcasting, such file-sharing features can truly come in handy. Unfortunately this still probably won't do much for helping Pownce gain on Twitter. There are too many third-party developers creating utility for the comparatively feature-lacking Twitter for the time being.
