The United States government launched a free new mobile app Wednesday that lets anybody with a smartphone view a handful of the president's documents.

The Presidential Documents App, developed by the U.S. Government Printing Office and the National Archives’ Office of the Federal Register, will make available the president's speeches, approved acts, nominations for various political posts and document communications between the White House and other parts of government, including Congress. It also acts as a hub for all White House executive orders, statements and press releases.

The app will also provide an account of the president's daily activities. The schedule won't be available ahead of time, but can be accessed on the app after the White House releases a recount.

Missing from the app, of course, are the classified briefings and other for-his-eyes-only material the president encounters on a daily basis.

Want to give the app a spin? It can be accessed from any mobile browser at gpo.gov/mobile.

Do you think this app is a good way to make the government more accessible to the public? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
