Pretty Little Liars continues to be a big social hit.

The show's Season 5 premiere, which aired Tuesday on ABC Family, generated 1.04 million tweets, according to SocialGuide, topping the number of tweets generated by the Season Four finale of AMC's The Walking Dead (1.01 million).

The episode also ranked among the Top 5 most-tweeted scripted TV series this year, but didn't break the record set by the show's summer 2013 finale, which ranks as the most-tweeted scripted telecast in TV history, ABC Family said.

"The team behind Pretty Little Liars has one of the most inventive and constantly-evolving social media strategies we've seen," said Jenn Deering Davis, co-founder of Union Metrics, in a release sent by the network. "They do a great job providing rich, relevant content to fans, both during the broadcast as events unfold onscreen, as well as between episodes and seasons. That commitment to an engaging, fan-focused approach is what sets them apart as one of the top TV programs on social media."
