Prom can be one of the most exciting moments in a student's high school experience, but sometimes daydreams of the big day don't always pan out.

Although Mesquite High School student Alyah Mitchell was forced to attend her senior prom alone on Saturday, her spirits were still high.

Mitchell's date, JR Hall, was involved in a serious car accident on Feb. 2, which left him in the hospital instead of enjoying the night out. But Mitchell made sure that her date had some prom-related fun. She visited Hall in the hospital, decked out in her prom dress, before attending the dance.

"He was really surprised to see me," said Mitchell. Hall is currently undergoing rehab, but is expected to be released in about a month, just in time for his prom, which the two will attend.

"It's been a very hard journey for him and I go visit him everyday I possible can, just to push him and make sure he knows I care," Mitchell told Mashable.

Twitter users praised Mitchell, but she said she was "just being a good friend or trying to be one."

Although Mitchell did attend prom alone, that didn't stop her from enjoying herself. Mitchell told Mashable she "had a wonderful time."
